Dr. Jonathan Collins is a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow and Visiting Professor of Political Science and Education at Brown University. Jonathan is also a Non-Residential Visiting Democracy Fellow with the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government. His research and teaching focus on African-American politics, urban politics, democratic governance, and education policy.


Jonathan is the author of peer-reviewed publications that have appeared in Political Behavior, the Journal of Urban Affairs, Local Government Studies, and the Harvard Journal of African-American Public Policy.  He has also had public commentary published in the Washington Post and Education Week. 


Jonathan has held leadership positions on municipal boards in Los Angeles, CA.  He has also collaborated on research projects with institutions such as: the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs, the Los Angeles Office of the Mayor, and the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). 


Jonathan holds both a Ph.D. in Political Science and an M.A. in African-American Studies from the University of California – Los Angeles as well as a B.A. in English from Morehouse College.
